Things You Should Know
Kentucky's soft drink industry is committed to its communities and its neighbors.
Since 1917, the Kentucky Beverage Association has been active throughout the
state, not only in providing refreshment through its products, but in community
activities. It's mission is to represent the interests of the entire soft drink
industry, its owners, employees and their families, customers and consumers in the
legislative arena.
The industry has changed over the years, with fewer bottling plants in individual
communities, but nonetheless soft drink companies working to be a part of every
community.
Our members are fiercely competitive among themselves in the marketplace, but join
together in working for common goals that benefit all in our great state.
Our bottlers are involved locally with parents and children in all sorts of
athletic events. We participate in charitable activities, United Way drives, and
other worthy causes. Each year, Kentucky bottlers donate almost $7 million worth
of time, products and equipment and contributions to schools, civic clubs,
churches, youth groups and dozens of worthwhile organizations that benefit our
home towns.
Recycling and Litter Prevention
The soft drink industry is proud of the fact that it has the most recycled product
containers in the world. Our members have been involved in litter prevention and
cleanup programs for years. In fact, all Kentucky bottlers are active participants
in the Adopt a Highway Program in Kentucky. The soft drink industry created
BIRP, an umbrella organization dedicated to promoting recycling which draws the
talents not only of the soft drink industry, but the beer industry, grocers,
retailers, and individuals. BIRP has been a leader in promoting recycling,
supporting recycling programs, backing cleanup programs such as Operation Pride,
and the East Kentucky Recycling Association.
We still realize that we must educate our consumers not to litter. We hope that
all Kentuckians will join with us to have the most comprehensive clean up and
collection program in the nation.
